Recently, Vivek Agnihotri shared his thoughts on the box office performance of the Prabhas-starrer Adipurush.
Vivek Agnihotri, the director of "The Kashmir Files," has subtly criticized Prabhas for portraying Lord Ram in Om Raut's film "Adipurush." The movie faced significant criticism for allegedly distorting the Hindu epic, Ramayan. Upon its release in June, "Adipurush" became entangled in various controversies.
Vivek Agnihotri has now reflected on the failure of the film "Adipurush" and why it sparked uproar across the country. He believes that when filmmakers create something they don't genuinely believe in, just because it's trending or popular at the moment, they are bound to go wrong with stories of faith. According to him, when making films based on faith, one should either have complete faith in the subject matter or be a historian. Otherwise, it is unlikely to resonate with Indian audiences.
Vivek also took a veiled swipe at filmmakers who might cast "stars" in films based on the Ramayan without naming anyone. He implied that simply having famous actors in such projects doesn't guarantee success. He emphasized that the stories of Ramayan have endured for thousands of years due to their profound significance, and portraying divine characters on screen does not make actors divine in real life. People are discerning and won't believe claims of divinity from actors if their actions in real life contradict such claims. The authenticity and respect towards the sacred subject matter matter greatly to the audience.
On March 11, 2022, both Vivek Agnihotri's "The Kashmir Files" and Prabhas's "Radhe Shyam" were released. However, their fates at the box office turned out quite differently. While "Radhe Shyam" faced disappointment and was deemed a disaster, "The Kashmir Files" proved to be a sleeper hit, achieving tremendous success in terms of box office collections. Throughout its theatrical run, "The Kashmir Files" managed to cross the 300-crore mark in collections.
Now, as Vivek Agnihotri and Prabhas find themselves heading for another cinematic clash, it remains to be seen who will come out victorious in this intriguing battle at the box office.
