Foxconn, a manufacturing collaborator of Apple, has initiated the manufacturing process for the forthcoming iPhone 15 iterations at its Sriperumbudur facility located in the Tamil Nadu state. In addition to Foxconn, Pegatron and Tata Group are also poised to potentially assemble the iPhone 15 in India. Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the situation, reports that Tata Group is currently in the stages of acquiring Taiwan's Wistron plant situated on the outskirts of Bangalore.
The Sriperumbudur plant of Foxconn Technology Group is gearing up to dispatch iPhones only a few weeks following the commencement of shipments from Chinese factories. Consequently, the 'made in India' iPhone 15 models are anticipated to hit the market shortly after their unveiling, projected to take place on September 12. In contrast to previous years when iPhone assembly in India led to delays of six to nine months, the situation has improved, particularly since the iPhone 14. As of the end of March, approximately 7 percent of iPhone production occurred in India, contributing to the reduction in the time lag.
Following the inauguration of retail outlets in April and the robust double-digit surge in iPhone sales within India in the June quarter, Apple identifies significant prospects for both retail expansion and sustained manufacturing growth in the nation. CEO Tim Cook has reaffirmed the company's dedication to investing in India, a sentiment he conveyed after engaging with Prime Minister Modi during his April visit.
Expected to make its debut around September 12, the forthcoming iPhone marks a substantial leap forward for the device, marking a noteworthy progression after a hiatus of three years. Prominent improvements include a substantial overhaul of the camera system across all models, while the Pro editions are poised to integrate an upgraded 3-nanometer A16 processor.
