G20 invite: ‘President of Bharat’ instead of ‘President of India’

In a dinner invite sent to G20 summit delegates, the President's office referred to Droupadi Murmu as the "President of Bharat" instead of the typical "President of India," as alleged by the Congress on Tuesday.

The party's General Secretary, Jairam Ramesh, tweeted, "Article 1 in the Constitution can read: 'Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States.' But now even this 'Union of States' is under assault."
This issue emerged three days after Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat appealed to abandon the term "India" and use "Bharat" when referring to the country. He made this suggestion during an event in Guwahati, emphasizing that "Bharat" has been the country's name for a long time, regardless of the language used.

On Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Harnath Singh Yadav echoed Mohan Bhagwat's sentiments. He stated to ANI, "The kind of inspiration and devotion that the word Bharat invokes, India can never do." He went on to say, "India is an abuse that the British used for us. They used the word to refer to anyone who they thought were uncouth, fools, and criminals."

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also tweeted: “Republic of Bharat - happy and proud that our civilisation is marching ahead boldly towards Amrit Kaal.”

Meanwhile, Sanjay Singh, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and a member of the Opposition's INDIA alliance, expressed the view that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP harbor animosity towards Bhimrao Ambedkar, who chaired the committee responsible for drafting the Constitution, as reported by PTI.

"I want to ask Bhagwat ji why does he hate Babasaheb Ambedkar so much," Singh questioned. "Why do you hate Ambedkar, Mr. Modi? Why do you hate the country's Dalits?"
